Historic Alameda & Carriage House

The Alameda House in Las Cruces, NM, built in 1848, is one of the oldest historic properties in Southern New Mexico, predating both the Gadsden Purchase and New Mexico statehood. It has been home to only four families in over 160 years, including notable residents like Major William Henry Harrison Llewellyn and Franklin Mitchell Haynor, who helped shape New Mexico's history. The Alameda District, where the house is located, became a home for affluent merchants, lawyers, and doctors, and is known for its diverse architectural styles beyond Spanish Colonial-style adobe homes. 

The area was developed as a residential neighborhood after the arrival of the railroad in 1880, with subdivisions around the railroad depot and Alameda Boulevard. The Alameda-Depot Historic District, where the house is located, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

The Alameda House building is approximately 6,532 square feet, consisting of 4,692 SF on the ground level and 1,840 SF on the second floor. This building also includes approximately 4,185 square feet of covered patio area, used as an event center. The Carriage House building is approximately 1,660 square feet, consisting of office space and storage. Approximate lot size of 2.1 AC.
